She drove around from 4 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. on February 13, locating and transporting lost luggage and equipment and then delivering it to one of three of the athletes’ hotels where they needed to be. She went above and beyond.
Winner: Serge CastonguayTeam Quebec Nominator: Valerie Parent Serge is a member of the Quebec delegation and the mission staff in charge of gymnastics. On February 13, a gymnast injured his right arm on the parallel bars during training and had to go to the hospital. Serge accompanied him for 12 straight hours, in addition to staying the night with him in the hospital.
Winner: Val GendronTeam NWT Nominator: Madison Pilling Madison is dedicated to helping NWT athletes as well as athletes from anywhere. She has gone to many different sporting events as a coach and as mission staff. She deserved to be recognized for everything that she does.
Winner: Sherry Doiron Team New Brunswick Nominator: Christine Powers-Tomsons As Chef de Mission for Team NB, Sherry's leadership and dedication to our group is inspiring. Her wealth of knowledge and experience has been instrumental in navigating the logistical challenges we have been faced with most recently since the start of the games, but also for the last year in preparing for this event. Throughout these challenges, Sherry continues to be the most positive member of our team, and we are very lucky to have such a great leader and person at the helm of Team-Equipe NB.
Winner: Jerrold Lemko Team Alberta Nominator: Makrina Morozowski Jerald has been the greatest mission staff member, representing wheelchair basketball to the highest degree. He helps us get bagged lunches when we cannot make it to lunch due to having a game and then cheers for us in the stands. Jerald is making an amazing effort to meet all of the athletes on the wheelchair basketball team. He is supporting us so that we can do our best. He also has supported our transportation needs from the gym to the hotel. Thanks Jerald!
Winner: Sue RichardsTeam Yukon Nominator: Sarah Lewis Sue is the ultimate volunteer. She has volunteered for many years as Team Yukon mission staff. She is a volunteer ski coach in Whitehorse for Cross Country Yukon. She knows that hill sports don't get as many volunteers out to them, so she makes a point to come cheer on team Yukon everywhere. She is the person you look for in the crowd cheering the loudest.
Winner: Jocelyn MacleodTeam Manitoba Nominator: Cathy Hummelt Jocelyn is Manitoba's mission staff for ringette. As her roommate in Prince George, I have watched her work tirelessly to support her team, run errands, attend to medical issues, and generally keep things organized. In addition to her team duties, she helps coordinate a large group of spirited and supportive parents who have come to watch the games. With her buffalo hat and colourful scarf, she works with enthusiasm and always with a smile on her face.
Winner: Nick SnowTeam Saskatchewan Nominator: Robin Horlock When our daughter's archery equipment was misdirected on the first day, Nick drove from location to location to find it. He called his contacts and comforted our daughter. He made a very difficult situation much better and was almost as happy as our daughter when the equipment was found. He attended every archery event and was often the loudest cheerleader. He modelled sportsmanship for your athletes.
Winner: Julianne Zussman Team BC Nominator: Catherine Martin Julianne absolutely immersed herself into the Team BC alpine team as a mission volunteer. Couldn’t have done it without her. She quickly became our kids team and parent team mother; she knew everything and helped with so many details! Thank you Julianne you were the best.
Winner: CJ KeliherTeam PEI Nominator: Sharon Gareau He stepped in to help coach our girls when one of our team coaches fell ill. He was awesome. Much love from the PEI girls’ gymnastics team!
Winner: Mariele dePeuterTeam Nunavut Nominator: Marty Brault Myself and the rest of the Sage delegation at the 2015 Canada Games were ready to head back to our hotel and were waiting for a car from the motor pool. That's when Mariele showed up in her vehicle, and we asked her if she was here to pick us up. She said no but immediately asked us where we wanted to go. We told her, and without hesitation said that she would be happy to give us a ride. We even made her take us to a grocery store for some supplies, which she was happy to do and patiently waited for us. We were all very, very impressed with Mariele's unbelievable show of team spirit. Her generosity truly defines what an MVS is! She fully deserves this award! Thank you, thank you, thank you Mariele for being such a great leader!

Winner: Gary MartinTeam Newfoundland/Labrador Nominator: Rod Snow For these games, Gary has stepped up above and beyond, giving a two-week commitment as a volunteer, stepping up when another mission staff member was unable to attend due to personal medical issues in the weeks leading up to the games. For Team NL, Gary is playing the role of medical liaison and mission staff member for sports in both weeks of the games: shooting and squash. An energetic and enthusiastic volunteer, Gary is dedicated to helping coaches and athletes during their time at the games. Gary is a willing-to-do-anything type of person—exactly what every contingent needs at the games.
Winner: Steven PatrickTeam Alberta Nominator: Guy Napert-Frenette Steven is a hard-working individual. As one of the key leaders on Team Alberta, he relentlessly and selflessly works day and night to service the team, supports the volunteers of Team Alberta, and simply has a positive attitude for everyone around. During the luggage arrival, at 4 in the morning, Steven personally hand-delivered two pieces of luggage for alpine skiers who were ready to train, instead of waiting for the regular shuttle that would have been arriving too late for the athletes to train.
